Britney Spears’ latest bizarre actions have landed her in rehab. It is a cry for help! Anna Nicole Smith was crying out for help too! We have all heard it so many times before, sometimes from rock star icons, and other young actresses with “too much - too soon, children of other famous people, Bing Cosby’s kids, Carol Burnett’s children, whose futures were sad and tragic, your children - my children. How could they possibly NEED anything? They have all that the world has to offer, and yet they have very little that they need.
What do our tweens and teens need? They need Mom and Dad or at the very least, one of the two, at home, consistently loving them, actually caring about who they are becoming and as important, who they will become. Unconditional love that knows no bounds of behavior, pushing all the boundaries, breaking all the rules, until they know, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are SAFE. For that is what we all crave, isn’t it? We want to know that someone cares if we make it, someone cares when it is dark and we are alone, someone cares if we are in danger. We need a personal touch from those closest to us to pull us back from the cliff of despair which hangs just above the cliff of destruction and permanent death.
What do tweens, teens and adults need? God. For He alone can satisfy that hole in the human heart. He fills up what is empty. He satisfies the dry, rasping thirsts of our whys? We know him by that name, but He has many others - Comforter, Healer, Victor and Savior.
That is what I have needed in the still of the night, when the demons come to call in my thoughts and my dreams, beckoning me to the cliff - Jesus Christ. Call on him, He is near to the brokenhearted, and to those who have no strength. He WILL not fail you. He will NOT fail you. He will not FAIL you.
